SLE which stands for systematic Lupus Erythematosus or simply known as Lupus is an inflammatory condition associated with the connective tissues and may affect various body parts or organs such as joints, lungs, kidneys, nervous system, skin, heart etc. Due to its effect on various body parts or organs, it shows different types of signs and symptoms in different people. It is worth noting that SLE is a chronic condition found in the body which affects women more as compared to men.   • Similarly, highly processed and preserved foods are also to be avoided when suffering from SLE. These interfere with normal functions of the digestive system which in turn aggravates the condition further.
  • Soy products that are rich in estrogen content are also known to be harmful for Lupus patients.

Foods favorable for Lupus patients

Intake of some foods is known to pace up recovery from the condition of Lupus. Some of the chief foods which are recommendable for Lupus patients are-

a) Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids are found to be effective in reducing the tenderness and inflammation caused due to SLE. Therefore Lupus patients are advised to take foods such as sardines, salmon, mackerel etc. to supply sufficient omega-3 fatty acid to the body.

b) Intake of Vitamin D is quite essential in this case as lupus patients are advised to avoid exposure to sunlight that may result in deficiency of this important vitamin in the body. In order to promote good health of bones and muscles, you need to take calcium and Vitamin D essentially through your diet.

c) Similarly, intake of Vitamins A, B, C, and E plus zinc mineral is also recommendable for such patients. All these need to be consumed in the form of different types of foods in your diet so as to recover from lupus effectively.
d) People suffering from Lupus also need to take iron in their diet. It is obtainable from foods such as green leafy vegetables, lean meat, fish, cereals etc. All these foods help you to get rid of anemia as well, which is also a common symptom of SLE.
