Anemia may be defined as the usual disorder of blood when it contains less number of red blood cells. It is a condition when the amount of hemoglobin in the blood cells goes down considerably. These cells are responsible for transfer of oxygen in the children’s bodies. Shortage of these cells leads to Anemia, the harmful ailment that often attacks the children too. Loss of blood or deficiency of nutrients or iron in the case of children leads to this disease. Genetic disorders, autoimmune problems, cancer or other diseases could also be causes of Anemia in the children that often suffer from microcytic or hypochromic anaemia due to shortage of iron.

Children affected with this disease could get relief with the help of the following home remedies and measures to prevent it.

a.     Rich food – Parents whose wards suffer from Anemia must ensure that the children must have the foods that contain vitamins and the minerals. Junk foods and other harmful eatables should never be allowed to the children. Rotis, curries or sambar should be included in your food as they enrich you with iron.

b.    Fruits – Iron is most important for the human beings including the children. Sufficient quantity of Vitamin C is a must for all that is found in fresh fruits. Citrus fruits including strawberries, oranges, grapefruit, kiwi and other ones should be added in the daily diets of the children.

c.     Lemon Juice – Adding lemon juice to the salads and curries enables the persons to have Vitamin C.

d.    Eatables with iron contents – We often see that the children like the fast or junk foods that harm them greatly. As such they should be advised to take foods that have sufficient contents of iron in them. The deficiency of iron can be maintained well with such foods or eatables.

Vegetables including Malabar spinach (Basella Alba), spinach (palak), coriander (dhania) or fenugreek (methi) contain sufficient contents of iron and folic acid that are much significant for our physique. Pregnant women should also take these vegetables in good quantity for safety of their offspring.

f.      Dates (Khajur) – With sufficient contents of antioxidants, dietary fiber, Vitamin C and B complex; Dates are quite useful for the children suffering from Anemia. The children may be advised to eat dates fresh or through recipes of barfis, laddoos or cakes. They can take Dates in the shape of chutney with jiggery or tamarind.

g.     Jaggery (Gur) – The levels of iron and haemoglobin in the children can be enhanced greatly with jiggery, the substitute of sugar. The youngsters affected with anemia can take the same by mixing it into coffee, tea or the breakfast cereal. It could be added to other eatables like kheer, payasam etc.

Other home remedies for treatment of Anemia in the children can be cured well by administering to them Pomegranate, Shatavari or punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa) that facilitate iron and other requisite vitamins. Saving the children from this disease requires the parents to ensure that their wards are prevented from taking junk or other harmful foods that may harm their health.
